“Everyone wants to be a Nigga but nobody wants to be a Nigger”. This was a forum held at my University I went to today which tackled the issue of the usage of the word; including history, influence on our youth, on us, our communities, etc. Although I don’t use the word, it opened my eyes and was quite insightful.

I do not care if you are:

Black
African [there is a difference]
Asian
Have black friends
Jamming a song with the word in it
White
Married to a black person.
A rapper
A gangsta.
Have swagg
Hispanic [or any other race]

Do not use the word ‘Nigga’ or ‘Nigger’ in any shape, way, or form. At the end of the day, you do you and I do me. But until you give me an extensive synopsis about the usage of the word including historical implications, and why the need for you to limit yourself to such condescending words, you & I have nothing to speak about.

For the black people, stop trying to reclaim the word and evolve it into a term of endearment. Try evolving slavery & the effects of it into a term of endearment, and then perhaps we can have something to discuss. I apologize for my harshness, but this forum that was held tonight really and truly opened my eyes about just how much words can affect a people. You see trillions of people outraged at the usage of ‘Faggot’ and the such, going to the extent of apologizing publically, yet the N word is used and it’s okay. It’s just a word. Did you know there were Duluth lynchings of Black people in the North & when cops were asked why they didn’t do anything they said ‘they’re just Niggers’? . Yeah, it’s not just a word. Educate yourself and expand your vocabulary.
