salaf:

‘If a man from amongst the Salaf were to be sent forth today, he would not recognize anything from Islam.” He put his hand on his cheek and added, “Except this prayer (salâh).” Then he said,

“But by Allah, this does not apply to the person who lives in this unfamiliar time, never having seen the Righteous Predecessors, but who sees [instead] the innovator calling to his bid’ah, and the follower of worldly wealth calling to his materialism, but Allah protects him from all this and makes his heart love and aspire to those Righteous Predecessors, asking about their way, searching and trying to follow in their footsteps, and adhering to their path. Such is a person who will be recompensed with an immense and great reward. So be you all like this, by Allah’s permission.”

admiral-yousmator:

Yo why is like 70% of muslim tumblr Salaf. Why where did you guys get all this arent you just muslim why are you denominating yourself further by claiming salaf. I dont get it. maybe someone can explain.

Asalaamu `alykum wa Rahmatullaah wa Barakaatu. I hope you’re doing wonderful and in the best of health & eeman. Excuse me for reblogging but I thought I would perhaps clarify the matter for you as I am of those whom you are referring to.

Linguistically, the word Salaf translates to predecessor. It is also a shortened term of Salaf(us) Saalih which translates to pious predecessors.

(the term Salafus Saalih or pious predecessors) refers specifically to the first three generations of Islaam in which the Prophet Muhammad (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam) described as being the best generations of Muslims. The first, the Prophet (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam) and his Sahaabah (companions). The second, the Taabi’een (the followers of the companions). The third, the Tabaa’at-Taabi’een (the followers of the followers of the companions).

Generally, this term refers to all those pious predecessors who followed the way of the Salaf and who have preceded us in time. This is the true manhaj of Ahl as-Sunnah wa al-Jamaa’ah. [x]

This is the manhaj (clear way) of the Salafus Saalih and a person ascribing to that manhaj would be referred to as Salafee. Just like how a person from Pakistan would be referred to as Pakistani or a person from Brazil is Brazilian.   Followers (plural) would be considered Salafiyyun (Arabic) or Salafis (Arabized English).

Shaykh al Fawzaan (hafithahullaah) answered the following question,

“Is Salafiyyah a hizb (party) from amongst the parties. And is ascribing to them (i.e. the Salafis) a blameworthy thing?”

He replied,

“As-Salafiyyah (i.e. the Salafis) is the Saved Sect, and they are Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah.It is not a hizb (party) from amongst the various parties, those which are called “parties” today. Rather they are the Jamaa’ah, the Jamaa’ah upon the Sunnah and upon the Deen (religion). They are Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah.

The Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) said,

“There will not cease to be a group from my Ummah manifest and upon the truth not being harmed by those who forsake them neither by those who oppose them” and he (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) also said, “And this Ummah will split into seventy-three sects, all of them in the Hellfire but one”. They said, which one is this O Messenger of Allaah? He replied, “They are those who are upon what I and my companions are upon today”.

The Shaykh continued,

Hence Salafiyyah is a group of people (i.e. the Salafis) upon the madhhab of the Salaf, upon what the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) and his companions were upon and it is not a hizb from amongst the contemporary groups present today. Rather it is the very old Jamaa’ah, from the time of the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) which inherits (this way) and continues, and which never ceases to be upon the manifest truth until the establishment of the Hour, as he (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) has informed (us).” (Cassette: “at-Tahdheer min al-Bid’ah” second cassette, delivered as a lecture in Hawtah Sadeer, 1416H).

Alhamdulilaah by the Grace of Allaah, we are Muslims and this is not a ploy to denominate ourselves (further for that matter) but rather to distinguish ourselves from Muslims who innovate matters, Muslims who believe that blowing themselves up and killing others is a duty upon us all, Muslims who curse the Sahaaba and ridicule Aishaa (radi Allaahu anha), etc.

In these times of fitan and widespread corruption, we all need to return to Islaam upon its intended meaning and upon its correct understanding. Its intended meaning is that which the Prophet Muhammad (sallah Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) was sent with and the correct understanding is that which he taught the Salafus Saalih who were his students.

I hope this was clarified and please refer to the below links for more information,

  • [uno] What is Salafiyyah : simplified.
  • [dos] Allaah has named us Muslim, so why ascribe ourselves to the Salaf?
  • [tres] What is Salafiyyah and what is your opinion regarding it?

I also want to thank you for inquiring rather than making false assumptions and I hope that any information presented can be of help in any way. Any errs are from myself, Jazaaki Allaahu khair.

p.s, 70%? Where are these people because to me it looks like 13.25%.

Ahul Sunnah wal Jamma’ah do not believe that anyone is infallible apart from the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu alayhi wa Salam, and they think that with regards to matters that are unclear, one must engage ijtihaad (individual reasoning based on Shar’i evidence), as far as in necessary. At the same time, they do not blindly support the opinion of anyone unless his words are in accordance with the Qur’an and Sunnah. They believe that the mujtahid may make mistakes and get things right he will have two rewards, the reward for ijtihaad and the reward for getting it right; if he makes a mistake he will have the reward for the ijtihaad only. In their view, differences of opinion in matters that are subject to ijtihaad does not mean that they should become enemies or forsake one another, rather, they love one another, befriend one another and pray behind one another, despite their differences of opinion in some minor issues.

Ibn Bâz (rahimahullah) about the celebration of Christmas and New Year

a-heart-revitalized:

Question:
Some Muslims participate in the holidays of the Christians. What is your opinion on that?

Answer:
It is not allowed for Muslim men and women to participate in the Christian, Jewish and other disbelievers’ holidays. The fact of the matter is that is it obligatory to stay away from them. The one who imitates a people, belongs to them. The Messenger (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) warned us against imitating them and their behaviour. The believing men and women should stay away from this. It is not allowed to help them in any way at all that supports their holidays. These holidays contradict the Sharî’ah and thus it is neither allowed to participate in them, cooperate with their people or even help them with tea, coffee or even kitchen items. Allâh (subhânah) says:

“And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.” (5:2)

To participate with the disbelievers in their holidays is a way to cooperate in sin and aggression.

The Effect of Shyness upon Finding a Good Husband Oh Muslim Sister!

an-nisaa:

[Translated and compiled by Rasheed Barbee, Source]

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

All praises belong to Allah may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family, companions and those who follow his guidance.

Question: In an effort to find a suitable spouse some of our Muslim sisters often resort to impermissible, demeaning methods such as free-mixing with men via the internet, chat rooms, marriage websites, social networks, sending pictures and the like.

Unfortunately some of our sisters have been deceived into believing this to be the more effective technique for obtaining a spouse, removing from themselves the veil of shyness, modesty and dignity.

Oh my sister in Islam! Trust in Allah and follow the blessed methodology of Islam when choosing a mate.

Shaykh Salih Fawzan explains how Allah rewards the shy and modest woman with a good husband. The Shaykh said:

Allah the Exalted said concerning the story of Musa,

And when he arrived at the watering (place) in Madyan, he found there a group of men watering (their flocks), and besides them he found two women who were keeping back (their flocks). He said: “What is the matter with you?” They said: “We cannot water (our flocks) until the shepherds take back (their flocks): and our father is a very old man.”

(Surah Al Qasas, 28:23)

Until the statement of the Exalted:

Afterwards one of the women came (back) to him, walking upon bashfulness. She said: “My father invites you that he may reward you for having watered (our flocks) for us.“

(Surah Qasas, 28:25)

So the bashfulness of these two women prevented them from crowding with the men at the watering hole, rather they waited until a shepherd appeared until they were able to water their flock without crowding with the men.

And when their father sent one of them to Musa to request him to meet with their father; she came to Musa عليهالصلاةوالسلام, upon bashfulness.

The result was that Allah the Exalted chose her as a spouse for His Messenger, the one He spoke to directly, Musa عليهالصلاةوالسلام. This was the result of her holding firm to shyness and bashfulness and being far away from mixing with men.

As Allah the Exalted said:

وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلطَّيِّبِينَ وَالطَّيِّبُونَ لِلطَّيِّبَاتِ

“Women of purity are for men of purity, and men of purity are for women of purity”.

(Surah An Nur, 24:26)

This story appears in the Noble Quran to be taken by the believing women as a righteous example until the Day of Judgment.

Truly in the heart there is a void that can not be removed except with the company of Allah. And in it there is a sadness that can not be removed except with the happiness of knowing Allah and being true to Him. And in it there is an emptiness that can not be filled except with love from him and by turning to Him and always remembering Him and if a person were given all of the world and what is in it, it would not fill this emptiness.

Voting is not Islamic Shuraa
Explained by Shaykh Saalih bin Fawzaan bin ‘Abdullaah Al-Fawzaan

Questioner: O noble Shaykh, may Allah give you success. Is it permissible to participate in elections and voting that are based upon democracy and man-made laws?

Shaykh Fawzaan: This is not from the actions of the Muslims. The action of the Muslims is for the scholars firm in knowledge to give the pledge of alliance to the one who is suitable to be the leader and by this he becomes the leader. And the people follow their decision; the people follow the decision of the scholars who are firm in knowledge, from the scholars and judges. It is not a must that everyone has a vote. This is the system of the west not the system of Islam.
